Freakin’ Peek Alert: Wolves in the Attic
We’re jumping the gun on this one here, but with good reason: we’ve got news. But that’ll come a little later.
First, on Monday, we have the opening track from the upcoming Wolves in the Attic record, Electronic Hearts. This one is near and dear to the hearts of your intrepid freakers. This is the debut release from our very own Mission Freak Records. We’ll have a lot more details on that coming soon, what with us being the shameless self-promoters we are. But let’s stick to the matter at hand: Wolves in the Attic.
After several spins of Electronic Hearts, I’ve determined that this Ames (don’t hold that against them) collective had to have been weened on the post-grunge pop-punk of the late 90′s, but somewhere along the way, they got a feel for late 60′s psychedelia. Wolves held on to the snappy, interlocking guitar lines of their (supposed) junior high fascination and expanded their arrangements with spaced-out break-downs. They’ve also developed a penchant for intimate-to-bombastic-style ballads (think “Wish You Were Here”), which move from Eric Moffitt’s voice and a lone acoustic guitar to sweeping slashes of electric guitar and waves of cymbals.
Like I’ve done the two weeks prior, this new tune hits the airwaves just a little before the six’o'clock hour on Monday. You can tune in to my KRUI show at frequency 89.7 FM or you can get that streaming from wherever you may be (it doesn’t take much to be out of range) right here.
If you can’t wait for Monday, or you can’t sit still for the radio, maybe you can get out and see the boys on tour; they’re hitting the road tomorrow. Here are those dates:
10/31: Ames- Liberty House Halloween Gathering (as Devo)
11/1: Minneapolis- Nomad Pub
11/2: St. Paul- Big V’s
11/3: Chicago- Ronnys
11/4: St. Louis- Cicero’s
11/5: Lawrence- Replay Lounge
11/6: Lincoln- Box Awesome
11/7: Sioux Falls- Nutty’s
11/8: Omaha- Saddle Creek Bar
11/9: Iowa City-The Mill w/ These United States
We’ll see you on the other side of what promises to be a rip-roaring Halloween weekend.
Note:there will be a slight augmentation on this here Freakin’ Peek. Because the record release show for Wolves in the Attic is not until a week from this Sunday (11/9/08), we’ll be dropping the “Loss of God” mp3 a day later than normal, on Wednesday, November 5th. So mark those calendar guys and dolls.
