Public Space ONE Gallery Opening: David Horvitz

ladder_aFriday night Public Space One unveils the second of its monthly art installations in the new PS1 Gallery . David Horvitz, an MFA student at Bard College in New York, presents his work in an exhibition entitled “Escape Route, or How to Pretend You Are Somewhere else, or Always Right Here.” Horvitz is a multi-disciplinary artist who works in many different mediums. His book, Xiu Xiu: The Polaroid Projects: The Book, was published last year by Matt Batty and features Horvitz’s original Polaroid photography of the band on the road. His artwork frequently focuses on spatial relationships between individuals. On his website is a list of things that he will do if you pay him a certain fee, all of which fall under the vast umbrella of his broad body of work. For example, for $1,626 he will go to the Pacific island of Taketomi and send you an envelope of star sand. For the less wealthy, if you give him $1 he will sit in silence and think about you for one minute. Your confirmation of this will be an email when he starts and an email when he finishes. I am not sure how this body of work will translate into his exhibition at PS1. You will have to be there Friday night sometime between 7 and 9 to find out. This event is FREE (!), and the exhibition will run until March 27. To accompany this event, there will be a performance of What’s In the Box? by Horvitz and Lukas Geronimas.

PS1 is located at 129 E. Washington St in Iowa City in the downstairs of the Jefferson Building. It’s right next to Subway.
