Freakin’ Weekend: 09.17-09.19

Wavves with Wet Hair, Sheetrock / Grinnell College / 9pm / FREE
Everybody’s favorite lo-fi hand-breakin’, public melt-downin’, hated-on-by-peers band Wavves comes to Grinnell for a free show with Iowa City’s own Wet Hair. Love ’em or hate ’em, this one is gonna be worth the drive.

MothUP Iowa City / PS1 / 7pm / FREE
The first in what hopes to become a regular installment of The Moth in Iowa City. The Moth is a non-profit, community run storytelling organization that encourages anyone to show up and tell a story. The theme of this premiere event is “Beginnings.” Bring a story to tell or just your ears, and maybe a small donation.

Ember Schrag, Ed Gray, Eloine / PS1 / 10pm / $5
Local out-folk wizard Ed Gray – capable of clearing out a room of people with a scathing set of droning guitar when he feels like it – performs at PS1 with some friends. Ember Schrag calls Lincoln home and is bringing some dusty, road-worn indie folk to the bill. Eloine, also of Lincoln, will be performing ambient improv. And Ed? Well, you’ll just have to be there to see.
