Barnstormer Kick-off Show in West Liberty
We already told you about how Daytrotter is going to barnstorm through our neck of the woods in mid-October with some exciting, up-and-coming indie acts.
Now we’ve got exciting news: Daytrotter has put together a special Barnstormer Kick-Off with some other exciting acts that’s going down THIS MONDAY (10/5) at 6pm. The evening is headlined by California’s Port O’Brien, who appear in West Liberty on the night before their third album, Threadbare sees the light of day. Threadbare‘s already received an approving Pitchfork review, and the positive press should keep coming in. Port O’Brien have come of age as a band in a post-Arcade Fire world, combining sunny Cali-folk with the Broken Social Scene mentality – ramshackle arrangements, group vocals, everyone’s invited. Seeing them in the spectacular Secrest Octagonal Barn is going to be one big foot-stompin’ sing-along.
Portland’s Nurses, recent Dead Oceans signees, put out Apple’s Acre earlier this year. They’re playing the Mill later that night with MV & EE, Twelve Canons, and Molly Ringwald. But you should come check them out here, because it’s free – oh, and did I mention it’s in a barn? The Secrest Octagonal Barn is a marvel of Iowa – 125 years old and still standing strong, the Octagonal Barn is like a secular cathedral, nestled into the Iowa country side. It is huge. And the sound there is dynamic. Photos can be seen in this article here.
Rising Iowa songwriter Brooks Strause, as well as Drink Up Buttercup open the show. The barn is located at 5750 Osage St. in West Liberty, IA. Carpool to save money – bonus points if you ride your bike out there.
