Preview: Lwa and more…

In her own way, Anni Rossi has proven to be more elusive than any of us would ever expect. The wonderful chamber-pop phenom, originally scheduled for a show tonight at the Picador has had to bow out amidst increasing tour fatigue (she has been on the road nonstop for months). She promises to return to Iowa City in the not-so-distant future but until then we still have to reckon with the realities of Friday night: the week has been long and it’s time to go out. In Rossi’s absence a mighty-fine shotgun bill has been culled together by the ever-so-quick club management. It’s a bill so entertaining and mind-blowing that one might say, “It seems as if were meant to be!”

Iowa City noise-kings Lwa head up the show which is FREE and bolstered by the ready availability of $1PBRs. Also in the mix are ethereal violinist Skye Merkle-Carassco, unlikely Dead-head the Savage Young Taterbug, and Star City. It’s a local showcase that’ll be full of well-thought out tones, totally freaked-out atmospheres, and a general sense of relief that the weekend has finally arrived.

WHO: Lwa, Star City, Skye Merkle-Carrasco, Savage Young Taterbug
WHEN: Tonight / Friday / 9PM
WHERE: Picador
HOW MUCH: Free / $1 PBRs
