This Weekend: Crossroads 2009

-1We’ve already pointed you east toward Rock Island this weekend, but there’s also reason to look west to Des Moines if you are looking for a reason to get out of town for a minute. Crossroads Entertainment & Art Experience is going down Thursday and Friday this weekend, with a focus on live music and entertainment with a mix of seminars and performances. Our own Alexis Stevens was selected to perform, representing the Iowa City contingent of this state’s fine music scene.

Among the events taking place are a Keynote Panel entitled “Urban Revitalization Through Entertainment,” which features speakers such as Jason Kulbel of Saddle Creek Records and the Slowdown in Omaha. The panel takes place from 4-6pm Friday afternoon at the Central Library in Des Moines.

The music portion of the event takes place Friday at the Des Moines Social Club starting at 6pm. Tickets are $10 ($15 day of). Along with Alexis, on the bill are several Iowa bands (and a couple national ones) that have flown under our radar.
