New Music: The Tallest Man on Earth

tallestmanSwedish folk crooner the Tallest Man on Earth has had a place in Iowa City ever since his captivating set last year at Public Space ONE as part of Mission Creek. When he came back in June with tenured indie rocker John Vanderslice, probably half the crowd came just to see the Tallest Man and then took off. He almost immediately built himself a fan base in this town, which I think speaks to just how great he is and how much his songs resonate.

Now, the Tallest Man (Kristian Matsson) is ready with the follow-up to Shallow Graves, one of my favorite records of the last few years. And from the sound of it, it’s going to be pretty good. The Wild Hunt comes out April 13 via new home Dead Oceans, and while only European dates have been announced, you know that American dates are going to accompany the new record. So, come play Iowa City again? Please? Download the new track, “King of Spain” below. Many of you will recognize it from him playing it live during his performance last June.
