Mission Creek Festival Preview: Metal Shows

Some times we can miss things. Arguably the biggest blind spot at Mission Creek is metal. Last year we totally spaced it and the year before we had an amazing bill fall into our laps. This year was a bit more pro-active. If you crave loud, really loud music, we got two fixes for you.

Tuesday
Black Cobra w. Cloud Burial and Acoustic Guillotine / Blue Moose Tap House / 8 pm / $5

This thing is for real. San Francisco metal outfit Black Cobra has quickly put itself in the conversation, along side Mastodon and High on Fire, as one of the better purveyors of contemporary independent metal. The group only dished out their second full-length last year. However, Chronomega (and it’s predecessor Bestial) is unbelievably strong and confident for a group’s sophomore release. The guitar and drums metal duo has also found themselves on Southern Lord records, in case you needed more proof of the duo’s quality. Catch local metal drum and bass duo, Acoustic Guillotine and Peoria’s Cloud Burial opening.

Thursday
Nethervoid w. Aseethe and Dredge / Blue Moose Tap House / 8:30 pm / FREE

And as icing on the cake, we got together with Scenester Credentials and built a nice (FREE) pre-show to get you all revved-up for Acid Mothers Temple. We have a triple-shot of some of Iowa’s finest metal acts. Nethervoid, who hasn’t gigged in a few months, will bust out their upside-down crosses and face paint to slather some satanic brutality on you. They’re joined by Iowa City experi-metal outfit Aseethe. Aseethe bounds between bass-rattling drones and electronic, chaotic explosions…dude’s will keep you on your toes. And for good measure, Nethervoid called in Dubuque’s Dredge, a thrashing, fiery trio who love them some drastic dynamic shifts and time signature changes. Try and keep up with all that! And it will all be over with enough time for you to dash across down town and catch Acid Mothers Temple! And it’s free.
