Weekend Thrash

Much like everything involving me and this organization, it started with a somewhat sketchy email from Andre. Tyler from HOTT, a local band of badasses, wanted to get the word out about an event. Being the person that I am, I will never stop anyone who wants to advertise an event called Old Thrashers IV. I’ll turn the floor over to him to tell you a little bit more.

Old Thrashers is an annual event started in 2007 by Kylie Buddin for his 40th birthday. That first show was an actual reuniting of many of Iowa’s first and finest punk bands from the early eighties who came together to relive a vital part in the Iowa City music scene’s past. Although that generation’s members had dispersed throughout the country, that very first event saw people traveling from all across the country to participate and/or experience it. It has not become a showcase for Iowa City’s punk veterans, playing with their most recent bands or with renditions of former ones. All proceeds go to United Action For Youth, a youth center in town that was instrumental in helping along the Iowa City/Iowa scene by providing encouragement, counseling, and free recording services to this first wave of musicians and subsequent generations of bands that have followed. It’s a fantastic opportunity to see the Old Schoolers kicking some serious ass!

Details: Saturday, March 12 at 8:00 @ The Mill

Bands: Hott, Acoustic Guillotine, Wax Cannon, Illinois John Fever & Chance in Hell.

Always support your local punks. They’ve got to hold shitty day jobs and this is their release. It can be your release, too.
