Weekend Lifestyle Choice
My weekend was pretty solid. I saw The Lonelyhearts out in the Ped Mall with Roommate. I’d seen neither band before, and both impressed immensely. I’ll make a note to check out both whenever they play again.
More importantly in my mind, I got to watch something that I’ve wanted to see since the beginning of the season: the Miami Heat crash and burn spectacularly in the NBA Finals. Every sportswriter was like oh, the Heat have too much talent to lose. As anyone who watched the Detroit Pistons win back in 2004, we know that talent is not necessary to win championships more so that team ability. That said, The Mavericks did it, getting J-Kidd and Dirk their direly needed (and totally deserved) rings along with putting the league on notice.
The best thing about this series was the fact that I got to watch Lebron just shrink to the moment, and I love stuff like that. Lebron’s always been a bit of a bum in my mind. I don’t know why, but he has. I concede that he can play quality basketball for sure, but he’s just not a dude for that big moment. He can’t, to quote Steve Buckhantz*, hit the daggers. So, watch him not show up again for the final quarter in the clinching game was just sublime. It made everything I’d ever hoped for become true. Dirk is now an all-time great. Kidd’s now going to be considered one of the best to ever run a point. And, JJ Barea’s going to get a raise for exerting 2x the effort with about 75% of the stature.
On a sadder note, this does mean that the basketball season is over, so I don’t get any more sweet highlights of dudes doing things. Sorry, baseball fans: your game’s pretty whack highlight-wise. It’s just sort of whatever. I’m back to posting stuff again this week, so be on the lookout. As well, I’ll try to post on more than one day this week. Still getting the hang of this continual blogging thing.
