Video Update

I have an email account that I do read from time to time. I get a lot of promotional email materials, and a lot of those are videos. There are some good ones, so I’m going to post them here.

The first video is from Computer Magic. A one woman project based out of Brooklyn, Computer Magic sounds a futuristic Sofia Coppola movie. To be clearer, she has the vulnerability and same generally distant style of those women, but her music is based strictly in dated aesthetics. Rather than the 70s or the Kingdom of Louis XVI, Danielle Johnson a/k/a Computer Magic references New Romanticism and synthpop for her aesthetics. The video for her song “Running” merges well with the music through its use of trippy visuals. She currently has a 12″ out on White Iris.

The longer jam from Megarama by Radical Dads. I’ve already professed my love for this album, so I’m not going to do that again. This song is still awesome.

Phil and The Osophers are a garage band working in the more traditional vein of that genre. Unlike a Black Lips or Jay Reatard who are both fully punked out or The Mummies who have a pure “we don’t give a fuck” attitude, Phil and The Osophers have more of that original 60s garage vibe. Maybe it’s the name. Maybe it’s the fact that they play with a lack of aggression or refinement. Either way, this song is full of reverb and 60s spy music riffs. It’s a good listen. It’ll be interesting to see what their longer parts will turn into as they are working on only an EP right now.

This video is “Claws Overhead” from Warm Ghost. The video is blurred out. It’s like they smeared the lens with vaseline and had a little too much 90s-style fun with Final Cut. I don’t want this to sound like a bad thing because it isn’t. I love this kind of thing. The music has the vibe that such a description of the video would suggest. It’s a good, solid listen. Reminds me of local darkwavers Goldendust a bit.

This is all I have for now. I’ll be back with more when I see more things that I like.
