Lit Preview: Granta Presents: 10 Years Later

Esteemed lit magazine/publisher and Mission Creek Festival alum, Granta Magazine honors the release of its 112th issue tonight (Tue, Sep 6) at Prairie Lights. This magazine release event is part of a series of events surrounding the new issue of Granta. The issue features new writing from several authors regarding the 10th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks and the series of related events is meant to “stimulate conversation about how the world has changed — aesthetically, morally, politically — since [9-11].”
Clearly, this is not an easily navigated topic and stepping up to the task of facilitating the discussion is the head of the University of Iowa’s International Writing Program, Christopher Merrill. Also in attendance are ZZ Packer (from the Writers’ Workshop), Horacio Costellanos (Dept. of Spanish & Portugese) and perhaps most intriguingly two residents from the International Writing Program’s fall class: Binah Shah (from Pakistan) and Kevin Bloom (from South Africa). This promises to be an intriguing event. It begins at 7pm at Prairie Lights in Downtown Iowa City.
